Project Afternight Beginner Guide
Project Afternight is a highly customizable Roblox rhythm game inspired by Friday Night Funkin'. Players join a speaker, select music and difficulty options, then hit rhythm inputs in time with incoming notes while competing or playing through songs.
Join a Speaker
Enter the game and join an available speaker setup to prepare for a rhythm session. Speakers are the main interaction point used to start songs and battles with other players.
Choose a Song
Open the available song selection and pick a track you want to play. Project Afternight includes Friday Night Funkin' material, community mod content, and songs originating from other games and media.
Select Your Difficulty
Choose the available version or difficulty that matches your current skill level. New players should begin with charts they can read comfortably before moving to denser or faster patterns.
Follow the Rhythm Notes
Watch the incoming notes and press the matching rhythm inputs when they reach their timing targets. Accurate timing is more important than pressing keys as quickly as possible.
Build Consistency
Try to maintain accurate hits through the full song instead of reacting aggressively to every note. Repeating familiar charts is one of the easiest ways to improve timing and pattern recognition.
Adjust Your Setup
Use Project Afternight's customization options to make notes and gameplay easier to read. Comfortable keybinds and clear visual settings are especially useful before attempting more difficult songs.
Quick Tips
- Four-key charts are the standard starting point for new players.
- Accuracy matters more than speed when you are learning a new pattern.
- Replaying familiar songs builds timing consistency faster than jumping between new tracks.
- Set up comfortable keybinds before your first multiplayer session.
Project Afternight Songs and Mods
Project Afternight is built around a broad rhythm-song library rather than a single fixed campaign. Its selection includes Friday Night Funkin' material, well-known community mods such as Mario's Madness, and additional tracks drawn from other games and media.
Project Afternight Controls and Keybinds
Project Afternight supports customizable rhythm gameplay, so the most useful control setup is one that keeps the main note inputs easy to reach without unnecessary hand movement. Players should prioritize consistency and comfort instead of copying a layout that feels unnatural.
| Platform | Input | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop | Keyboard rhythm inputs | Use four comfortable keys for standard four-key charts and keep one finger assigned to each input whenever possible.Choose a layout that lets both hands stay relaxed during long or fast songs. |
| Desktop | Custom keybinds | Use the game's customization options to move rhythm inputs to keys that match your preferred play style.Avoid frequently changing binds once you begin building muscle memory. |
| Mobile | On-screen touch inputs | Use the visible rhythm lanes as your primary inputs and keep the device positioned so every lane can be reached comfortably.A stable device position helps reduce missed taps during faster patterns. |
| Console | Controller inputs | Use the available Roblox and in-game controller inputs for rhythm play, keeping frequently used directions or buttons within easy reach.Use a consistent finger position rather than moving between buttons unnecessarily. |
| All Platforms | Timing practice | Press the matching input when the incoming note reaches its target instead of reacting only to the music.Practice familiar songs repeatedly to improve timing consistency. |
Project Afternight Best Settings
Project Afternight offers extensive customization, making it useful to tune the experience before playing harder songs. The best setup keeps rhythm information easy to read, avoids distracting effects when necessary, and maintains smooth performance on the device being used.
Comfortable Keybinds
Set the main rhythm inputs to keys or buttons you can press repeatedly without stretching your hands.
Consistent finger placement makes rapid patterns easier to learn and reduces unnecessary movement during long songs.
Clear Rhythm Readability
Prioritize gameplay customization that keeps incoming notes, lanes, and timing targets easy to distinguish.
A visually clear playfield makes dense charts easier to follow and reduces missed notes caused by background distractions.
Performance-Focused Graphics
On lower-powered devices, reduce Roblox graphics quality or unnecessary visual load if the game does not remain smooth during songs.
Stable performance is especially important in a rhythm game because frame drops can make timing and note reading more difficult.
Visual Effect Comfort
Adjust available visual customization to reduce distracting movement or intense effects when needed.
Project Afternight includes warnings for flashing lights, screen-shake-style effects, and jumpscares, so players who are sensitive to these effects should use less intensive visual options where available.
Practice Before High Difficulty
Keep the same control and visual setup across several familiar songs before making further changes.
A stable configuration helps build timing consistency and makes it easier to tell whether mistakes come from the chart or from the setup.
Project Afternight Difficulty Progression
Project Afternight contains rhythm charts with very different speeds, patterns, and note density. Instead of jumping directly into the hardest available chart, improve consistency first and move up when you can read patterns without losing timing.
Beginner
Lv 1Basic timing and note recognition
- Choose slower or less-dense charts
- Learn the key layout without constantly looking at the keyboard
- Focus on hitting notes consistently instead of chasing a high score
Intermediate
Lv 2Accuracy and pattern reading
- Practice alternating-note patterns and short bursts
- Reduce early and late inputs
- Replay familiar songs while aiming for cleaner accuracy
Advanced
Lv 3Dense charts and fast transitions
- Work on faster note streams and rapid direction changes
- Keep a steady rhythm instead of reacting to every note individually
- Practice difficult sections repeatedly before moving to another chart
Expert
Lv 4High-speed and highly technical charts
- Prioritize accuracy even during extremely dense patterns
- Learn difficult chart sequences through repeated attempts
- Use familiar songs to improve consistency before attempting unfamiliar expert charts

How to Play Project Afternight Multiplayer
Multiplayer follows the same rhythm fundamentals as solo practice, but another player can perform alongside or against you. Learning the chart first makes competitive sessions much easier because multiplayer adds the pressure of keeping pace with another player.
Join a Server
Enter Project Afternight through Roblox and load into a public server. Look around for speaker setups being used for rhythm sessions.
A quieter speaker is useful when you want time to choose a song without interrupting another match.
Join a Speaker
Interact with an available speaker setup and take an open player position. Another player can occupy the opposite position for a shared rhythm battle.
Do not take over an occupied setup while other players are already preparing or playing a song.
Choose a Song and Chart
Use the available song selection interface to choose the track, version, and difficulty you want to play when you have selection control.
Pick a difficulty both players can reasonably handle if the goal is a balanced match.
Play the Rhythm Battle
Hit incoming notes in time with the chart and maintain accuracy through the entire song. Consistent timing is more useful than randomly pressing keys during difficult sections.
Keep watching your own note lane instead of being distracted by the other player's inputs.
Practice Before Harder Matches
If a chart is too difficult, replay it in a lower-pressure session before challenging other players again.
Learning difficult patterns alone can make your multiplayer performance substantially more consistent.
